Mars Recalls Dove Caramel Pecan Perfection Ice Cream

Ice Cream.  They are recalling ice cream.  Who keeps ice cream around long enough for it be recalled?  In our house, we buy ice cream a then eat it.  None of this waiting around for it to be recalled.

To get to the point, Mars announce a voluntary recall yesterday of their Dove Caramel Pecan Perfection ice cream.  It’s lot number 931AB5YN07 and they are recalling it because it might contain peanuts.

Two things that this recall amazes me about are 1) The number of products that contain peanuts and 2) The number of people who are allergic to peanuts.  People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume products with even a trace of peanut in them.

Fortunately, in this case, no related illnesses have been reported. Even better, for those of us who do not suffer from a peanut allergy or sensitivity, this product is safe to eat.

If you’ve got some Dove Caramel Pecan Perfection Ice Cream and have a peanut allergy, you’l find the lot number on the bottom of the containers.

In case you do have a container or two of the recalled ice cream, Mars says to should return it to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.  If you have any questions you can call Mars on their toll-free number: 800-551-0895 between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM Monday – Friday.
